treats. Whether you want to have a huge herb garden or a small pot of herbs in a sunny window sill, planting herbs
is a fun project that is easy to do if your follow the simple methods of planting herbs that are listed below.
Planting Herbs From Seed
There is something extremely satisfying about planting herbs from seed. Placing a seed in the ground and
watching it sprout taps into the creative side in all of us. Most herbs are very easy to start from seed as long as
you pay careful attention to the planting instructions on the back of the plant. Some herb seeds are so small that
you will simply scatter them on the surface of your soil. Other seeds are a bit larger and can be raked to a depth
of ¼ an inch. Bigger herb seeds can be buried. When you need to plant an herb seed more than ¼ of an inch deep, use
the tip of a pencil or even a screwdriver to poke a hole in the soil and drop your seed in.
When you are planting herbs from seed, you need to pay attention to spacing. Herbs such as chives can be spaced
quite close together, because each seed will only provide you with one stalk of chive. To get a mass planting
of chives in a pot or in the ground, you need to sprinkle down many of the tiny seeds. Plants such as basil need to
be spaced evenly, because each seed produces a small plant, the leaves of which are used to season your soups and
stews.
When you plant your herb garden from seed, you will find that you are using the most economical method of
planting herbs. Seeds cost very little and you can even share or trade them with your friends.

you don’t have to worry about spacing because the seeds are spaced for you. You also don’t have to worry about tiny
seeds washing away before they have a chance to sprout. Seed tape is especially wonderful if you plant to plant
your chives in rows.

at your local nursery or garden center and then place them directly in the ground or crowd them in to a lovely
